As you know, I am the very proud owner of a new baby niece – Ava. Born on her mummy’s birthday, Ava is now just over 2 weeks old and doing really well. She’s a little cutie! There’s nothing like a new arrival to get the craft juices flowing and, in addition to the mitred square blanket, I wanted to stitch an heirloom piece, something to commemorate Ava’s birth and for her to look back on when her own children are born.
So I decided on a cross stitch sampler. Rather than use a standard baby pattern, I flicked through some back copies of Cross Stitcher Magazine and found a pattern for a wedding picture. The colours are beautiful, not too girly but very spring-like. I love the birds in the top of the trees and the bunting. What do you think?
I’m going to frame it in a wooden hoop and back with felt, adding a ribbon to hang the picture to finish of the vintage feel.
